Sking Needling for Acne Scars

Skin needling is being talked about a lot in the press for scars, wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks and other skin conditions. But does it work? The short answer is YES! But like many skin treatments, the treatment is only as effective as the technician.

How does skin needling work????? It works by making a lesion with a needle. There are several techniques for doing this but a small scratch to the scar, wrinkle, or stretch marks with a micro pigmentation needle works best. This sends a panic signal to the brain to send collagen and lymphatic fluids to the area to fix the lesion.....but.....whilst the body is working on the lesion it's tricked to soften and fills the scar as well. This treatment also re pigments the area so that the scar is less noticeable because it blends in with the rest of the skin.

There are many ways of doing skin needling. There are all sorts of Derma Rollers on the market today that can be used either at home or in a clinic. Derma Rollers should be used by a professional as misuse of them can lead to scaring. Derma Rollers are fantastic for fine lines and to get that skin tightening effect we all want! They don't work as well for deeper wrinkles, stretch marks, or deeper scars such as self harm scars. But I find that these are less effective than if the treatment was done by a trained micro pigmentist.....it is also no more expensive. Some dermatologist will use needles to plum up the scars....but the consultations can be pricey. Stay away from tattoo parlours offering the service...tattoo artists are very heavy handed by the nature of their work.

After the treatment you will look like you had a fight with your cat and lost. The area will be red and lumpy, hopefully you will have swelling (the more the better) but by the second day the swelling should have disappeared and by the fifth day you should have very little redness, a full recovery should be expected in a week or so.

You should see results from the first treatment but it is not a magic cure. If you're scars are deep you will need several treatments.
